Free Museum Days in So CA

Did you know that most museums have regular “free” days throughout the year? I received a neat email this morning from our charter school with a list of free field trips to museums in southern CA, so I thought I'd share. Even if you don't live in southern CA, there are quite likely free museum days in your area as well. Check out their websites for individual museum hours and directions. Enjoy!

Los Angeles area:
  • California African American Museum – always free
  • California Science Center – always free
  • UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History – always free
  • The Getty Center – always free
  • Museum of Television and Radio – always free
  • Hollywood Bowl Museum – always free
  • The Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits – free the first Tuesday of every month
  • Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology – free on Wednesdays
  • Museum of Contemporary Art – free every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Natural History Museum – free the first Tuesday of the month
  • Huntington Library – free the first Thursday of the month – advance tickets required
  • Autry National Center: Museum of the American West – free the 2nd Tuesday of the month
  • Aquarium of the Pacific – free on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. when there is a Shark Lagoon Night
  • Kidspace Children’s Museum – free first Tuesday of the month from 5 – 8 p.m.

San Diego – Balboa Park:
  • Reuben H. Fleet Science Center – free the first Tuesday of the month
  • Model Railroad Museum – free the first Tuesday of the month
  • Natural History Museum – free the first Tuesday of the month
  • Museum of Photographic Arts – free the 2nd Tuesday of the month
  • San Diego Art Institute – free the 3rd Tuesday of the month
  • San Diego Museum of Art – free the 3rd Tuesday of the month
  • San Diego Museum of Man – free the 3rd Tuesday of the month
  • San Diego Air & Space Museum – free the 4th Tuesday of the month
  • San Diego Automotive Museum – free the 4th Tuesday of the month

Orange County:
  • Bowers Museum – free first Sunday of the month from 10 to 4
