Documentary or Mockumentary?

Will Ben Stein's new film, Expelled, be seen by the public as a documentary that exposes the dark side of university censorship or as a Michael Moore-type propoganda piece? That seems to be the emerging question.

"Is Ben Stein the new face of Creationism?" by Roger Moore, February 1, 2008.

Here is just one quote that caught my eye:
Expelled makes good points about academic freedom and the ways unpopular ideas are shouted down in academia, the press and the culture. But not offering evidence to back your side, where the burden of proof lies, makes the movie every bit as meaningful and silly as that transcendental metaphysical hooey of a couple of years back, What the Bleep Do We Know?

As you can see, this is not exactly a positive review. And I can't say I disagree with some of the points the author makes. But I'm reserving judgment until I actually see the film.

And just in case you're curious, here is an extended trailer for the film (7 minutes). Enjoy!

Thanks, Rusty. Interesting review. Good counterpoint to the previous one. I'll be very curious to see how the media coverage of the film pans out.
